Cherished Gatherings

Special Events

From baptisms to confirmations, weddings to funerals, St. Stephen's wants to provide comfort and peace through every one of life's major events.

Open Minds, Open Doors

We Are an Inclusive & Welcoming Community

In addition to our regular worship schedule, St. Stephen’s celebrates a variety of liturgies to observe key moments in Christian life.

From the sacrament of Holy Baptism to a person’s confirmation, and from the happiness of weddings to the sorrow and grief of funerals, St. Stephen’s works to support its members through every stage of life. To learn more about how St. Stephen’s handles these events, read below.

Rebirth Through Water

Holy Baptism

Membership in the church is bestowed by God’s action through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church. People of any age may be baptized, but as a loving God wills that all will be his, the baptism of infants was an early Christian tradition and one that the Episcopal Church continues to practice. The Baptismal Font stands just inside the door of the Cathedral as a reminder that we enter into the Christian faith through Baptism. Arrangements for baptisms can be made by contacting the office.

Commitments to Christ

Confirmation

Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop. Confirmation classes are scheduled prior to the visit of the Bishop at the Easter Vigil, when confirmation occurs. Arrangements to participate in these classes can be made through the Cathedral Office.

Eternal Life

Funerals

We are pleased to offer funeral and memorial services to members and to those who are not members. Together with all who follow Jesus, we believe that death changes but does not end life. Our service offers a dignified and grace-filled time to remember that there is hope even in times of great sadness. Please call the office to make arrangements.

Holy Matrimony

Weddings

The Episcopal Church recognizes the sacrament of Holy Matrimony as a spiritual marker in our journey of faith. Any couple (including same-sex couples) who wishes to be married in the church or have their marriage blessed must meet with our clergy well in advance of the proposed marriage date. Contact the parish office to arrange an appointment.
