St. Stephen’s Episcopal Cathedral is seeking submissions of visual art for its upcoming exhibition, The Feminine Divine.
What is this about?
This juried exhibit invites artists to portray the feminine nature of God. The feminine divine is a spiritual concept that there is a feminine counterpart to the patriarchal and masculine theological structures that have long dominated organized religious discourse.
This exhibit is inspired by theological discourse which has considered the nature of the Divine as transcending gender binaries. Although there are abundant references to the feminine nature of God in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures and the Apocrypha, the feminine divine extends well beyond one belief system, and can be used as a spiritual lens to balance one’s perspective.
We recognize that the feminine and the masculine are not singular or siloed energies—instead, they exist in balance. In a time in which we reconsider the usefulness of gender binaries, in what ways do we consider the illuminating the feminine qualities of the Almighty?
